Pergola-covered deck looking out over the garden

About us

Thirteen years,
one patch

We started with a van and a mower. We finish gardens now — but we still work the same streets.

Our story

From grass cutting
to garden building

MAE started in 2013 doing what most landscapers start doing — lawns, hedges, tidy-ups. Over thirteen years the work changed. Customers who'd had their grass cut for years started asking who could do the patio, then the driveway, then the whole garden.

So we invested in the machinery, put our people through the training and stopped taking on the maintenance rounds. Today we build premium outdoor living spaces — resin, porcelain, composite and the groundworks that hold them up — for homeowners across St Helens and the North West.

Three vans, our own crews, and the same phone number Martin has answered since the beginning.

What we won't do

We don't subcontract the work out, we don't take deposits we haven't earned, and we don't quote for jobs we haven't stood in. If we're not the right firm for it we'll tell you that on the first visit.

"Turned a tip of a back garden into the best room in the house. Turned up when they said they would, cleaned up every night, and the finish is spot on."

"Quoted, started and finished exactly when they said. The porcelain still looks like it went down yesterday and we've had it two winters now."

"Third contractor we've used on this estate and the first one we haven't had to chase. Residents have stopped ringing us about the grass."

Common questions

The things
everyone asks

If it isn't answered here, ring or send a message — you'll get a straight answer rather than a brochure.

How much does a typical garden transformation cost?
Our sweet spot is between £10,000 and £15,000 for a full rear garden — patio, lawn or artificial grass, fencing and lighting. Smaller packages start around £5,000 and larger projects run well beyond £25,000. Every completed job on our projects page carries the actual figure it came to, so you can judge for yourself before you ring.
How long does a project take?
Most driveways are four to six days. A full garden transformation is usually two to three weeks on site. We give you a start date and an end date in writing, and if the weather moves them we tell you the same day rather than the week after.
Do you charge for a quotation?
No. The visit, the design and the written quotation are free and there's no obligation. We'd rather spend an hour finding out we're not the right fit than have you commit to something you're unsure about.
Are you insured, and do you guarantee the work?
Yes to both. We carry full public liability cover and every installation comes with a written workmanship guarantee on top of the manufacturer warranties on the materials themselves.
How far do you travel?
About half an hour from St Helens — so Rainhill, Widnes, Warrington, Runcorn, Haydock, Prescot and the south side of Liverpool. Staying local keeps the team on site rather than sat in the van.
Can we pay in stages?
Yes. Most projects run on a deposit to secure materials and a schedule of stage payments as the work progresses, with the balance due on completion once you're happy with it.

Where we work

Local, and
we stay local

We work within about half an hour of St Helens. It keeps the team on site rather than sat in the van, and it means we're never far away if you need us after the job is done.
