Your information

Privacy Policy

What we collect through this website, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated: 12 October 2026

This policy explains how MAE Landscapes (“we”, “us”) uses personal information collected through maelandscapes.co.uk. We keep it short because we collect very little.

1. Who we are

MAE Landscapes is a landscaping business at 16 Hillside Avenue, St Helens, Merseyside, WA10 6LT, and is the data controller for the information described here. You can contact us about anything in this policy by emailing info@maelandscapes.co.uk or calling 07800 533654.

2. What we collect

When you send an enquiry through our website, we collect the details you type into the form:

  • your name
  • your phone number
  • your email address (optional)
  • your postcode
  • the service you are interested in
  • anything you tell us about your project

When you call, email or message us on WhatsApp, we receive your phone number or email address, your messages and any photos you choose to send.

When you visit the website, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information in its server logs — your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time — to keep the site running securely. To stop the enquiry form being abused, we also keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for one hour after you send an enquiry. We do not use it to identify you.

3. How we use it

  • to reply to your enquiry, arrange a site visit and prepare a quotation
  • if you become a customer, to carry out the work, invoice you and honour our guarantee
  • to keep records we are legally required to keep, such as accounts
  • to keep the website secure and free of spam

We do not use your details for marketing, we do not sell them, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

4. Our legal basis

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) we rely on: steps you ask us to take before entering a contract (responding to your enquiry and quoting); performance of a contract (carrying out work you have agreed); legal obligation (tax and accounting records); and our legitimate interests in running and protecting our business and website.

5. Who we share it with

We only share your information where we need to:

  • our website hosting and email providers, who store it on our behalf
  • WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to contact us that way — WhatsApp’s own privacy policy applies to messages sent through it, and Meta may process data outside the UK
  • our accountant and HMRC, for customer records we are required to keep
  • suppliers, only where needed to deliver your job — for example a delivery address for materials

6. How long we keep it

  • Website enquiries that do not go ahead are deleted automatically after 12 months.
  • Customer records are kept for six years after the job is finished, as required for tax purposes, and for as long as any guarantee on the work still applies.
  • Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period for security and then deleted.

7. Cookies

This website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not load content from other websites. If you log in to manage the website, WordPress sets the cookies needed for that. If we add analytics in future we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

8. Links to other websites

Our pages link to other sites, such as WhatsApp, the Planning Portal and the RHS. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your information, so please read their privacy policies.

9. Keeping it safe

The website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, access to enquiries is limited to people who need it, and we only keep what we need.

10. Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To make a request, email or call us using the details above. There is no charge, and we will reply within one month.

11. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information we will update this page and the date at the top.
